Scenes from an Unfinished Country 1905-1995
Written and directed by Chris Millado
Synopsis
1905 in the Philippines: a period fraught with the sense of impending change – amid rumors of war, a nationalist theatre group sings its song and bravely tells its allegorical stories of love and betrayal. Their purpose is to keep peoples hope in the popular movement for independence, while trying to evade surveillance and the Sedition Law. To do so, they must commit their music and poetry to memory, so that these continue to live beyond them in the popular imagination.
